Radio broadcast: Die schöne Galathée (cancelled)

Comic-mythological opera in one act

Sunday, 25 April 2021, 8:30 pm
Munich, Prinzregententheater

Due to a pandemic, the 4th Sunday concert "Die schöne Galathée" with live radio broadcast on April 25, 2021 at 8:30 p.m. from the Prinzregententheater must unfortunately be cancelled. We ask for your understanding.

About the programme

The ancient myth of Pygmalion, the sculptor who falls in love with one of his own creations, served Franz von Suppè and his librettist Henrion Poly as the basis of an enjoyable opera. Die schöne Galathée, premièred in 1865, portrays the animated statue as a quite headstrong young lady. Instead of Pygmalion or the nouveau riche Midas, she casts her eyes at the servant Ganymede – and the trouble runs its course. An entertaining one-acter with rapturously beautiful music, from the vigorous opening of the overture to Galathée’s elegantly ornamented romance to the comic Jewelry Trio!

About the performers

Being a trained opera singer and actress, the Austrian soprano Daniela Fally is ideally qualified to take on the title role in Suppè’s Die schöne Galathée. Besides her impressive coloratura, the press invariably emphasise her versatility, which she has demonstrated in the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera in such roles as Rosina, Adele and Zerbinetta. Mezzo-soprano Deniz Uzun takes on the trousers role of the servant Ganymede, while tenors Jörg Schneider and Gerhard Siegel complete the quartet of solo vocalists. Like Suppè himself, principal conductor Ivan Repušić grew up on the coast of Dalmatia, and both men absorbed the Italian culture of this region as a source of inspiration, if in different eras.

CANCELLATION of the concerts with LIVE AUDIENCE UNTIL April 26, 2021

The Bavarian state government decided to extend the lockdown until April 26, 2021, among other measures to contain the corona pandemic. On this basis, the Bayerischer Rundfunk is forced to cancel the concerts of its orchestras, choir and musica viva with live audiences until April 26, 2021. Tickets already purchased will be refunded.
