Wednesday concert / Mittwochskonzert

Egmont

Incidental music for Goethe’s play

Wednesday, 12 January 2022, 7:30 pm
Munich, Prinzregententheater

Für Elise and Ode to Joy: Beethoven’s music is nothing if not popular. Yet although everyone knows it, there are always new things to discover. Now the Munich Radio Orchestra presents an “All-Egmont Concert” featuring his complete incidental music to Goethe’s play, along with a narration of the text: “How my heart pounds, how my blood surges!” A perfect setting for Goethe, the prince of poets, who conceived his play with music from the very beginning – and was ideally rewarded for it by Beethoven!

About the performers

John Fiore, a frequent guest of the Munich Radio Orchestra, is a connoisseur of both music theatre and Viennese classicism. Who could be better appointed than this New York-born conductor to bring Beethoven’s Egmont score to life! August Zirner, an actor known throughout the world, will narrate Grillparzer’s adaptation of the play for concert performance. And Klärchen’s songs will allow Christiane Landshamer’s warm, lyrical soprano voice to burst into full flower.
