Klassik zum Staunen
the munich radio orchestra’s outreach programme for children and young adults
Getting young people excited about music, introducing them to the world of classical music and making them amazed: that’s what the Munich Radio Orchestra seeks to do with “Klassik zum Staunen”, its outreach programme for children and young adults.
- To this end, the so-called “triple tier model” was developed in conjunction with the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Culture. It consists of advance teacher training courses, school visits by musicians and concerts for school classes. Pupils can also attend the orchestra’s rehearsals in Studio 1 of Bavarian Radio. Some concerts are also accompanied by painting contests.
- Family concerts are augmented by the annual children’s and family day as well as the competition “Mitten im RO”, where contestants can win a seat in the middle of the orchestra. The so-called “Zwergerlmusik” (littlefolk music) is designed for pre-school kids from three to six years of age.
- The Munich Radio Orchestra’s programme for promoting up-and-coming young musicians includes the “Klasse Klassik” project, where selected school orchestras play alongside professionals. It is also a partner in various competitions and cultivates joint projects with the August Everding Theatre Academy.
- Finally, the Munich Radio Orchestra assumes the sponsorship of an elementary school in the Munich region and an outstanding high school orchestra in Augsburg.
