About the programme

A Mediterranean summer night in mid-February: the Munich Radio Orchestra makes it possible! An indispensable ingredient of this Notte Italiana is a selection of arias full of feeling and passion, ranging from richly textured scenes from Verdi to grandiose opera tunes familiar from advertisements, movies or your favourite CD. The joy of recognition is guaranteed! Exhilarating overtures and orchestral interludes are a must, of course, as is Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio italien, a brilliant orchestral study written while the composer was staying in Rome.

About the performers

Krassimira Stoyanova, a star on all the world’s opera stages, has long been a familiar figure with the Munich Radio Orchestra. Since 2007 this versatile Bulgarian soprano has starred on such CD releases as a Verdi album, I palpiti d’amor, Verismo and a collection of arias from Slavic operas. Following her début at the Sunday Concerts, the orchestra now has the honour of accompanying her for an entire season as its artist-in-residence!
