A Mediterranean summer night in mid-February: the Munich Radio Orchestra makes it possible! An indispensable ingredient of this “Notte Italiana” is a selection of arias full of feeling and passion – from Tosca’s heartbreaking confession “Vissi d’arte, vissi d’amore” (“I lived for art, lived for love”) to grandiose opera tunes familiar from advertisements, movies or your favourite CD. The joy of recognition is guaranteed! Instrumental preludes and dances as well as the famous Intermezzo sinfonico from “Cavalleria rusticana”, Mascagni’s drama about Sicilian peasant honor, may not be missing, of course.
Krassimira Stoyanova, a star on all the world’s opera stages, has long been a familiar figure with the Munich Radio Orchestra. Since 2007 this versatile Bulgarian soprano has starred on such CD releases as a Verdi album, I palpiti d’amor, Verismo and a collection of arias from Slavic operas. Following her début at the Sunday Concerts, the orchestra now has the honour of accompanying her for an entire season as its artist-in-residence!
On January 19, 2021, the Federal Chancellor and the heads of government of the federal states decided to extend the prohibition of events until February 14, 2021, among other measures to contain the corona pandemic. On this basis, the Bayerischer Rundfunk is forced to cancel the concerts of its orchestras, choir and musica viva with live audience until February 14, 2021.
