A romantic ghost saga and an operatic thriller: with his staged works “Le villi” and “Tosca”, Giacomo Puccini showed a distinct sense of exciting stories of a variety of genres. Moreover he provided irresistible melodies and refined harmonies. The excerpts will be complemented by Puccini’s study for strings “Crisantemi”. Originally written as independent mourning music in 1890, it had been integrated in “Manon Lescaut” later.
In the concert performance of Puccini’s La rondine in 2015 the Munich Radio Orchestra was headed for the first time by the man who serves today as its principal conductor: Ivan Repušić. Now he will again probe Puccini’s rich sound in Prince Regent’s Theatre. Krassimira Stoyanova has already recorded several Puccini arias on CD as the orchestra’s visiting artist. High time for this expressive soprano to present a complete work by the master of verismo! Tenor Martin Muehle has excelled on stage in such roles as Don José and Calaf.
