Oscar-winning Argentinian pianist and composer Luis Enriquez Bacalov (1933-2017) gained an international reputation based primarily on his film music. In his Misa Tango the Jewish Bacalov set only those portions of the classic liturgical Mass to music that, as he once emphasized, “are equally valid for Christians, Jews and Muslims”. In the Misa a Buenos Aires Bacalov’s compatriot Martin Palmeri (*1965) combines deep faith with the distinctive style of the tango nuevo from his Argentinian homeland.
“Demonstrations of strength are something for men,” but the Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra once said she sought to sweep people along and convey joie de vivre and wins audiences over in particular because of her charismatic style of conducting. Currently chief conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in Australia, she is creating a worldwide sensation not least as an enthusiastic performer of Latin American composers.
Mario Martos Nieto is Principal Trumpet of the Munich Radio Orchestra.
