St John Passion

Munich, Studio 1 im Funkhaus
The Slovenian composer, choral conductor and teacher Damijan Močnik (b. 1967) is known most of all for his choral music. In 1995, for example, he distinguished himself with a hymn for the visit of Pope John Paul II in Slovenia. His St John Passion of 2011, laid out in the form of a five-part cantata, combines lines of tradition in Western church music with the tonal idiom of his native land.

Time and again Ivan Repušić has placed music from the Balkans on the MRO’s programmes. Following the opera Ero the Joker and a Glagolithic Requiem from the linguistic region of Croatia, he now draws our attention to a St John Passion from neighbouring Slovenia, for which he has enlisted the services of the storied Ljubljana-based Slovenian Philharmonic Chorus.
The advance ticket sales will be postponed until further notice due to the uncertain capacities in autumn caused by Corona. Perhaps tickets will go on sale at short notice.
